February 4 was the last day of my first semester at the Universidad de Cuenca and my first day of five weeks of vacation. After much research and last minute success in finding a deal, Mom and I headed to the Galapagos to spend several days aboard the Galaven. Days later we arrived back on the mainland only mildly sunburnt and absolutely enchanted.
The islands themselves are not particularly spectacular but the species that inhabit them and their boldness and sheer number is magical.

| Sally light-foot crabs dot the shores all over the islands. |

| Giant tortoises can weigh up to 400 lbs. and can live hundreds of years. |

| Blue footed boobies. |
 |
| Sting rays! |
